Having fun without breaking the bank

This mama knows what time of year it is because it happens every year…. the FINAL BELL! Yes everyone, you know what I am talking about school ending and summer beginning. I myself cannot wait for the first 45 minutes after that final bell to hear the most common phrase of the summer, “I’m bored”!

Well, this mama has some tricks up here sleeve to break the boredom, but not the bank.

Kinds Eat Free

Every city has that amazing restaurant where kids get to eat free a certain day of the week. This gives you a chance to not cook and to spend time with the family for less than half the price of a typical restaurant meal.

Plan a Picnic in the Park

Parks can wear a kid out and keep them occupied for hours. Pack up your lunch and snacks and head over for a day of relaxation and fun. Many cities have water areas at parks to help keep the kids cool from the summer heat. Even mom and dad can hit the water for some extra fun with the kiddo’s, I sure know I do!

Movie in the Park

Our communities hold many functions just for families for free. Movie in the park can be an amazing way to get out on a warm summer night with the family to lay down a blanket and enjoy a movie and popcorn without costing you an arm and a leg. The movies are always family friendly and you can meet some new community members at the same time.

Wonders of Nature

Many kids today many hours on electronics and would be amazed at what is right outside our front doors. Take the kids on a nature hike. Make a game out of what they find. Bring home things to look up together and learn about. Even a plain rock can become amazing of beauty with a little crafting.

Crafting

I know we have all been to a craft store and kids can become very costly in one of those stores, so plan your activities in advance. You can google DIY projects for kids and buy most supplies at the dollar store. You all know those clear fake gems they sell for a dollar a bag, right? You can paint the bottom, use glitter, or whatever you love to decorate with and they become beautiful works of art.

Lemonade Stand

A lemonade stand is not only cost effective, but it allows kids to earn their own spending money while teaching them about business and cash handling. This is not only cost effective, but it will give your children a sense of pride and accomplishment.

These are just a few ideas that can break your creativity shell and not the bank. Good luck to all the parents who are hearing “I’m bored” right after that final bell and take up some of my helpful tips on how to cure that boredom on a budget.
